October 2nd, 2005. Bolton Flats WMA, Lancaster, MA.
This morning Susannah and I went out with the Hampshire Bird Club scheduled field trip to Bolton Flats WMA. The group was a small one with Scott Surner and Val Miller leading, and we enjoyed a comfortable morning bathed in glorious autumn sunshine.

The birding was rather busy and this is clearly a great spot with some excellent potential. Highlights included excellent looks at a close feeding group of about 18 Rusty Blackbirds, a late Yellow Warbler, a single but well seen DICKCISSEL in the cornfields, and a rather brief but identifiable CONNECTICUT WARBLER. I think we surprised the latter as we walked alongside the cornfield and it perched  for only a short while before flitting into the corn and avoiding relocation and the camera (naturally!).

In general I didn’t have too much luck with images this morning, but trip leader Scott Surner came away with some nice shots. The excellent images here appear with Scott’s permission.
