August 28th, 2005. Longmeadow Sandbar, Longmeadow, MA.
Buff-breasted Sandpipers (2) Tryngites subruficollis, juveniles.
Two immaculate juvenile Buff-breasted Sandpipers on our very first visit to the Longmeadow Sandbar. These highly attractive shorebirds are uncommon anywhere in New England and eagerly anticipated by birders at this time of year. By just standing quietly on the sandbar, the birds simply walked towards us giving amazing views. I don’t recall ever having better views of this charming species  in New England. Just wonderful!
