October 11th, 2005. Barton Cove, Turner’s Falls, MA.
Common Tern Sterna hirundo, juvenile.
All terns, including Common, appear to be rare in Western Massachusetts, and this bird found by Mark Fairbrother on October 10th was just the second in the CT River Valley this fall. These poor quality shots cannot be regarded as conclusive but the bird was identifiable in the field as a juvenile Common Tern.

Other birds around Barton Cove, apart, from the Black-legged Kittiwake, included;

Green-winged Teal - 4
American Wigeon - 2
Common Merganser - 2

Taken using Canon Powershot A-95 through Swarovski telescope.
