August 23rd, 2005. Northfield Mountain Recreation Area, Northfield, MA.
Cliff Swallows (2) Petrochelidon pyrrhonta. Juvenile shown.
Northfield Mtn Rec area on Route 63 (09:30 - 11:00 hrs);
A Wildlife viewing sign by the road prompted me to have a look around. This place was full of birds, mostly common species but lots of them. I birded only around the parking lot and approach road which was enough to keep me busy.

Highlights;
Green Heron - 1 juvenile
Eastern Kingbird - 22 many of which were just sitting on the short cut grass.
Willow Flycatcher -1
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER - 1 in a small alder/willow swamp close to a small cemetery.
PHILADELPHIA VIREO -  1 (1st-winter). Had a good look at this and puzzled over it for a short while, intially passing it off as a bright Warbling Vireo. Having seen another two days later on August 25th, I now realized my mistake and now feel confident about the id.
Warbling Vireo - 2
Red-eyed Vireo - 12
CLIFF SWALLOW - 2 (adult feeding fledged juvenile) amongst Tree and Barn Swallows sitting on the approach road. Apparently 'rare and local' as a breeding bird in Western Mass.
Taken using Canon Powershot A-95 through Swarovski HD telescope .
