October 6th, 2005. East Meadows, Northampton, MA.
| Field Sparrow Spizella pusilla.
| The
foggy mornings continue and this morning really took quite a while to
clear. As usual the East Meadows was very busy with an obvious increase
in Savannah Sparrows (340) since my last visit. Otherwise, a fairly
typical selection of species, comparble with recent visits, with the
exception of an adult SORA
flushed at close range just 100 yards south of the Swan Pool. Similar
to my observation of a juvenile Sora on September 25th, this bird took
me completely by surprise and I was unable to refind it despite noting
exactly where it had landed.
Otherwise, the most notable birds were a juvenile White-crowned Sparrow and a wonderful looks at this Field Sparrow.
