Tanji Reserve, The Gambia, West Africa. January 16th, 2003.
Meditterranean Gull Larus melanocephalus. Adult winter.
A good find for our Birdfinders tour. Meditteranean Gulls are apparently quite rare in The Gambia with only eight records mentioned by Clive Barlow and Tim Wacher (A Field Guide to the Birds of The Gambia and Senegal 1997). Adults are striking in apperance. Note the pure white primaries apart the thin black line along the outer web of the outermost primary.
