Turner's Falls, MA. December 7th, 2005.
Ring-billed Gull Larus delawarensis. First-winter.
A smallish young Ring-billed Gull, rather dark overall especially on the underparts and on the mantle, vaguely suggestive of Mew Gull. This bird also had especially strong coarse barring on the undertail coverts when directly compared to the other young birds present.
All images taken using Canon Powershot A-95 through Swarovski HD telescope.

Dark first-winter to the left of the adult, more typical first-winter to the right.

Compare the bird in question (left of the central adult) with the two typical first-years to the right of the adult.

Relatively small billed for a Ring-billed Gull.
