American Tree Sparrow Spizella arborea

Nice
to have these attractive sparrows from the northern tundra back in the
fields and hedgerows. These were my first of the fall, though I’ve already seen a number of reports from Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Other notes for today;
Checked a couple of spots in the Northampton area in late afternoon,
though the Ibis Pool in the West Meadows in still cut off by flood
water.
Arcadia (Fort Hill road area);
Canada Goose - c.30
Green-winged Teal - 12
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 3
‘Eastern’ Palm Warbler - 1
Dark-eyed Junco - c.55
East Meadows (by the airfield);
Great Blue Heron - 3 flew south.
American Kestrel - 1
American Tree Sparrow - 2
A single Hermit Thrush was on the Norwottuck rail trail in Amherst.
