October 14th, 2005. Oxbow Marina, Northampton, MA.
Black-legged Kittiwakes Rissa tridactyla. Adults (5).
Five adult Black-legged Kittiwakes were still present, that’s now four straight days at this spot. It's been interesting to note that all of these adult birds have shown at least some active wing molt. This much reduced the amount of black on the wing tip which showed little resemblance to the 'inky' black wing tips illustrated in some of the popular field guides. Check the wing tip patterns shown in some of the flight shots taken at the Oxbow today.
Taken using Canon Powershot A-95 through Swarovski telescope and Leica 10x42 binoculars.
