October 25th, 2005. Turner's Falls, MA.
Black Scoter Melanitta (nigra) americana. Male.
Driving rain and cold north-easterly winds all day. I tried a couple of spots this afternoon but had the most success at:

Turner’s Falls Power Canal;
Black Scoter - 1 male
Bufflehead - 1
Green-winged Teal - 1
Common Merganser - 1
Canada Goose - c.600.

Barton Cove
Black-bellied Plover - 1 juvenile.
Common Merganser - 2

No gulls of any real interest on the Umass playing fields but there were 25 Savannah and 6 Chipping Sparrows in the area.
Taken using Canon Powershot A-95 through Swarovski telescope.

Bufflehead - female/first-winter male.
