November 20th, 2005. Barre Falls Dam, MA.
Northern Shrike Lanius excubitor borealis, adult.
Really nice views of this bird as it charged around the parking lot area in front of the hawkwatch station. It eventually caught a small rodent and made several attempts to catch others, often hovering just before plunging into the grasses. Bart Kemp mentioned that the bird had been in the area for about two weeks.
