February 4th 2007. Pulaski Park, Holyoke, MA. Black-headed Gull. Larus ridibundus. First-winter. Definitely a surprise, picked up late in the day whilst skimming through the Ring-billed Gulls floating down the river towards the dam. A personal first in the Connecticut River Valley, the only other bird that I've heard about since moving here in 2005 was of one seen by Brian Kane, also at the Holyoke Dam, about two years ago. Images taken using Canon Powershot A540 through Swarovski HD Telescope. |
