February 6th 2007. Pulaski Park, Holyoke, MA. Glaucous Gull. Larus hyperboreus. Adult. A fine adult Glaucous Gull at Holyoke this evening, seen with Brian Kane. Very cold again, the frigid Arctic air keeping temperatures below 20 F. There was more ice on the river than on February 4th with the gulls being a little farther out from the river bank. We did see the first-winter Black-headed Gull fly through and land on the ice upriver from the Route 202 bridge. Other good birds this evening included a Peregrine, a Kumlien's Iceland Gull and one of the Nelson's Gulls from February 4th. Images taken using Canon Powershot A540 through Swarovski HD Telescope. |
![]() Beautiful adult. On the small side for a Glaucous Gull with clean white head and pure white primaries. Note relatively short-winged appearance. ![]() ![]() Kumlien's Iceland Gull - first cycle. |
