January 29th 2007. Turner's Falls Power Canal, MA. Unidentified Gull. Larus sp. 1st cycle. This large, tricky, first-winter gull flew into the power canal towards dusk to rest and bath for a while. Mark Taylor and I also saw the same bird on January 30th. First impressions were quite Thayer's like, but I'm wondering if it may be a smallish, dark smithsonianus x hyperboreus hybrid - Nelson's Gull? Comments are always welcome. |
