December 25th 2006. 'Townline Bay', North Hampton/Rye, NH. Dovekie (Little Auk ) Alle alle. How sweet to find a Dovekie in New Hampshire on Christmas Day! I first spotted this little charmer as I pulled off Route 1A to scan the often productive bay on the North Hampton/Rye townline, just north of Fox Hill Point (refer to p.31 of the NH DeLorme Gazeteer). Found just after noon, I spent some frustrating moments trying to capture images between its long and frequent dives. Luckily, the bird seemed settled but active and was easily visible from the roadside footpath. JoAnn O'Shaughnessy arrived a few minutes later and graciously put out the news.
