November 4th 2006. Campus Pond, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA. Richardson's Cackling Goose Branta hutchinsii hutchinsii (2). The excellent sequence of Cackling Goose records in the Pioneer Valley continues. This afternoon Susannah Lerman, Brian Kane and myself watched at least two birds at very close range on the UMass campus pond. About 500 Canada Geese were present. There is a possibility that one of these relates to the fly-over Cackler that I saw in Hadley yesterday. Both individuals are shown below.
