Thayer's Gull. Larus thayeri. Juvenile/first-winter. Images at rest.

Juvenile/first-winter Thayer's Gull discovered and thoroughly documented by Tom Johnson,
Justin and Devin Bosler, Edward J. Raynor and Cameron Rutt on December 21st. The
conditions at Macmillan Wharf offered a perfect opportunity for close and prolonged views of this
difficult to identify species. These images were taken over a period of three hours in a variety
of lighting conditions. More on the identification to follow......Just added on January 1st, 2007.
Captioned images of the Thayer's Gull with comparisons to a dark Kumlien's Iceland Gull.

An amazing collection of Thayer's Gull images can be seen here on the Japanese Gull Site.
Several of the juveniles featured in these pages compare favorably with the bird in Provincetown Harbor.
In addition, you may view Tom Johnson's original image selection of the P'town Thayer's from December 21st.
