Northern Shrike
Lanius excubitor borealis.

Found my 'first of the season' Northern Shrike locally this evening, a nice brown immature bird with rather pale lores and only very faint barring on the underparts. Looked bold and settled in ideal habitat (field edges bordering extensive scrub covered slope). Also in the area, Sharp-shinned Hawk, 200+ American Robins, 20 Cedar Waxings and a dozen Eastern Bluebirds. Some 450 Canada Geese were on the UMass-Amherst Campus pond but contained nothing out of the ordinary.
