Cackling Goose Branta hutchinsii.
A Cackling Goose, possibly the same bird seen by Brian Kane and Tom Pirro at this location on October 20th, was on the power canal at Turner's on a balmy October afternoon with about 1,000 Canada Geese. This bird was one of the smallest, maybe 'the' smallest that I've seen locally, and comparible to a drake Mallard in size. However, the overall jizz and plumage strongly suggested nominate hutchinsii. Two Northern Shovelers were also present.
