Hampton, NH Coast, 22nd June, 2005.

Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrow, Ammodramus caudacutus. A scarce species, split in 1995 from the
more widespread Nelson’s Sharp-tailed Sparrow Ammodramus nelsoni. The Saltmarsh species is restricted
to coastal saltmarsh habitat along the Atlantic seaboard of the eastern US, and therefore very limited in
distribution. New Hampshire in the summer months is as good a place as any to see this secretive bird
and I’ve been quite impressed with the numbers that I’ve recently recorded at the Hampton saltmarshes and
at Chapman’s Landing. This was the first time that I’ve been able to capture a few images.
