May 29th, 2005. Krif Road fields, Keene.
|
There
was virtually a complete exodus of shorebirds from the stubble fields
since my last visit to
Krif Road on May 25th. Only Killdeer and Spotted
Sandpiper remained and both species behaved as if breeding. The fields were rather quiet but a Field Sparrow near the UPs depot was
a surprise and
several Bobolinks sang from the rank grass.
Common Nighthawks put in their first major appearance of the spring with
at least 15 birds
over the Athletics stadium and power line route.
