Black-tailed Godwit Limosa limosa (Adult). Plum Island, MA, July 18th, 2006
First found and documented by Phil Brown on July 17th, the day after
this Red-necked Stint was discovered in Connecticut. Susannah and I visited Plum Island
today but only had a limited amount of time to spend on the refuge during the heat of the day.
The godwit showed well for us but rather more briefly than I would have hoped.
Phil Brown and Steve Mirick both achieved some wonderful images on July 17th and 18th.
On July 19th, Hector Galbraith captured more images and the bird was still being reported,
though less frequently, until 6pm on July 20th.
(Images below taken with Canon Powershot A95 through Swarovski HD telescope).

Striking white wing bars in flight, broad white rump, black tail and long projection of toes beyond tail.
