Red-necked Stint Calidris ruficollis (Adult), Milford Point, Milford, CT. July 16th, 2006.
Breeds Siberian Russia and Western Alaska, winters South-East Asia. ABA Code (3).

Found by Nick Bonomo on a Sunday afternoon. Thanks to prompt reporting by Roy Harvey we
drove south from Western Massachusetts to find ourselves watching the bird just two hours later.
Only a dozen or so birders were on the beach that evening while this gem-like shorebird worked
between the tides with Semi-palmated Sandpipers. An Asian shorebird in near full breeding plumage
on the New England coast - very cool indeed!

Red-necked Stint (center). Nice dorsal comparison between two Semi-palmated Sandpipers. From rear shows bright rufous scapulars contrasting with rather plain gray (or gray brown), tertials and wing coverts.
