September 10th, 2005. Off Monterey, California.
Flesh-footed Shearwater Puffinus carneipus ABA Code (3).
Really poor quality shots I know, but it wasn't easy taking these images in a very heavy swell with folks being sea-sick all around us and the excitement of a life bird! The masses of Sooty Shearwaters really made these tricky to pick out but I noted two or possibly three Flesh-foots during the day, all of which were called by the leaders on the boat. A really beautiful chocolate-brown shearwater and a rare but regular highlight of the Moneterey pelagics.
Images taken using Canon Powershot A-95 through 10x42 Leica binoculars.
