Oaks Sanctuary, High Island, TX. April 22nd '06. A rare but apparently
increasing visitor to the TX Gulf Coast. The Handbook of Texas Birds
(TOS, 2004), lists only 19 documented records for the state, though at
least three have been reported so far this spring.

record shots were taken through 8 x 42 binoculars as the bird fed high
in the canopy.

| Greater Flamingo, of the Caribbean form (P.r.ruber),
Aransas Bay, off Fulton, TX. April 10th '06. This bird was banded as a
youngster in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico and had been present in the
bay since November 2005.
