September 10th, 2005. Monterey County, California.
Tricolored Blackbird Agelaius tricolor, females. ABA Code (2).
We had some fun trying to pull out Tricolored Blackbirds from Bi-colored and Red-winged Blackbirds at a local wetland in Monterey. The females were arguably more distinctive than the males being rather cold gray in appearance with a very white throat, completely lacking the rufous tones of similarly plumaged Red-winged Blackbirds.
