Shows gleaming white rear flank when relaxed in shallows, and dull gray hind-neck. NB. Female
Common Eider at rest on sand close by.

Bar-tailed Godwit - Flock of nine, Safety Sound, Nome, June 25th.

Ruffed Grouse - Female, Hatcher Pass Road, near Palmer. June 19th. Poor quality shot taken through binoculars, through windscreen of vehicle. This female had at least 11 chicks in the verge by the roadside.

Chestnut-backed Chickadee - Seward, June 18th.

Mew Gull - Adult, Tern Lake, Kenai Peninsula, June 18th. A common bird throughout most of the tour.
