We
saw good numbers of Brown Boobies during our two days on the Dry
Tortugas,
more so than we expected, and these birds were closest individuals we
saw. From Garden Key, we observed a total of 17 Brown Boobies coming
into roost on this marker on the evening
of May 15th.
The images were taken using a Canon Powershot A-95 through Leica 10x42
binoculars as we passed the marker at about 30 m.p.h! Note the nice mix
of pale-yellow billed adults and grayish billed immatures. Note also the
pale eye of the immature on the right of the marker. Most field guides
show Brown Booby having a dark eye at all ages.
