January 6th, 2006. East Providence, RI.
Mew Gull Larus (canus) brachyrhynchus. (Adult).
This Mew Gull was a superb find for Carlos Pedro of Warwick, RI, who found it resting with a small number of Ring-billed Gulls at Watchemoket Cove in East Providence. Compared to the surrounding Ring-billed Gulls, this bird looks especially dark on the upperparts, and lacks any sign of a well demarcated band around the bill.

This bird has been identified by the finder and subsequent observers as referring to the American form
brachyrhynchus, sometimes known as Short-billed Mew Gull. It was most recently seen and reported on January 15th (per Paul L' Etoile).
